BIONATOR

This is a removable functional appliance used to enhance lower jaw growth.

This appliance should be in all the time except while eating, brushing your teeth, or contact sports.

You should brush your Bionator 2-3 times each day.

Always keep your appliance in the case provided when it is not in your mouth.

When speaking with the appliance in, try to keep your lower jaw positioned forward and keep your teeth together. Try to keep your lips closed over the appliance when not speaking.

It is common for your teeth and jaws to be sore for 3-7 days.

Speech can be altered for a short period of time. Practice reading out loud with the appliance in.

This appliance is usually used for 6-9 months with full-time wear followed by night-time wear.

Always be sure to keep this out of reach of small children and pets.

You will notice and increase in saliva flow. This will slow down after a few days.

The more you wear your Bionator the faster your treatment will be finished.

ELASTICS

Rubber bands put pressure on your teeth causing them to move. The more you wear them the quicker you will be finished with treatment.

Wearing elastics will cause your teeth to be sore for about one week.

Wear your elastics as recommended by Dr. Powell (usually all the time).

Sometimes they will break in your mouth. Simply replace them if this happens.

Change your elastics at least once a day.

You will be given enough elastics to last between visits. If you lose them or run out, please call out office, or stop in to get a new supply.

QUAD

This appliance is used to expand the upper jaw. It attaches to the upper molar bands. It is also used to stop thumb and finger sucking.

Dr. Powell adjusts it at each appointment to continue the expansion.

Temporary soreness can be expected for 3-7 days after the initial appointment. Be sure to brush your tongue and rinse with salt water to help the tongue adapt to the Quad.

Speech can be difficult at first, but after a day or two, it will return to normal.

For the first few days some foods like pizza and peanut butter are difficult to eat. For the duration of treatment all sticky foods should be avoided.

You will notice an increase in saliva flow. This will slow down after a few days.

If the Quad should become loose or broken, please call our office so it can be fixed.

This appliance is usually in for 3-6 months.

RETAINERS

Hurray! The braces are gone!

Retainers are designed to hold your teeth in their corrected position until your bones and your gums adapt to the change.

Be Patient: The retention process does take a long time. Dr. Powell will determine how long you will need to wear your retainers. The time varies with each patient.

Remember three things:

Wear Them! They are only effective if they are in your mouth. Retainers should be worn all the time except when eating or playing contact sports.

Keep Them Clean! Clean all parts of the retainer with your toothbrush and toothpaste. Soak in denture cleaner as needed. It is not necessary to soak your retainer in water when not wearing. Do not boil the retainer to clean.

Handle Them With Care! Retainers are easier to lose than our think. Always place them in your retainer case for safety. Please keep them away from pets and small children. They are expensive to replace. If a retainer becomes lost or broken or does not fit properly please call our office.

Now it is up to you to keep your beautiful smile!

TOOTH POSITIONER

This is an appliance that resembles a professional mouthgard. It is used at the end of treatment to do the finishing movements to your teeth.

You should wear it at night sleeping, plus at least 4 active hours during the day (clenching and releasing). The more active hours that you wear it the better your result will be. It is very important that you actively clench your teeth when wearing it. That is what causes your teeth to move.

Never rinse your tooth positioner in hot water or leave it in direct sunlight.

Always use the case provided when you are not wearing it to protect it from damage or loss.

Brush it 2-3 times each day to keep it clean.

Retainers will be given to you once the positioner is finished.

If you have any difficulties please call our office immediately.
